Today on Doing Time - Thursday September 4th, 2008

By Alex G.

FROM THE RNC

Did Sarah Palin rock your world? She sure had a nice speech written for her. We’ll play plenty of excerpts and fact check all the innuendo, vague allusions and misleading statements.

We’ll also run through the former Presidential aspirants who blathered at the podium last night. You won’t believe the gall of Rudy Giuliani … or maybe you will.

IT’S STILL THE ECONOMY STUPID

Yesterday we had on Tim Kane, Economic Advisor to John McCain. So today, Kuby’s going to speak with Jason Furman, Director of Economic Policy for Barack Obama. We’ll leave you to make the comparison and see which candidate scores better for your pocketbook.

SEX SELLS

Bristol Palin’s pregnancy doesn’t count as a sex scandal – though to Republicans Jamie Lynn Spears’ did – but Win McCormack will tell us why there do seem to be so many Republican Sex Scandals. His book is You Don't Know Me: A Citizen's Guide to Republican Family Values.

Plus a recap of all the OTHER news including what Cheney is doing to antagonize Russia, and where baggy pants are illegal.

Community Organizer bashing

I think Ron was a little rough on some of his callers yesterday, re. this question of community organizer bashing.
You gotta watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert responding to Palin's and Guiliani's disparaging comments about all those vicious and vile community organizers out there.

BTW, I am a social workers, and all social workers know what community organizers do (progressive and otherwise). At Yeshiva University, where I got my degree you can major in CO.

Just the other day my sister (also a social worker, but not a co) mentioned that one of Obama's heroes is Saul Alinsky, famous community organizer.
I was impressed. I asked her if she read his bio (Obama's). She said no, but that she had read an article somewhere that mentioned Obama's admiration for Alinsky's style of working for and with the people (and for change; there's the kicker----Repubs don't like change, accept if it is the kind of change that brings us closer to the middle ages).

Americans may be a bit slow on the uptake (I should know, I teach grads and undergrads) but isn't "community organizer" kind of self explanatory?

Wouldn't their dissing of co's be kind of like saying, "OMG that man was a VOLUNTEER! A VOLUNEER!!! Give me a break! He did things for the good of other people. Can you believe that? Where is the liberal media when it comes to breaking news of this magnitude? Make sure all your friends and neighbors know that B.Obama was a volunteer in a community that needed assistance! Let people know this. Shocking. Shameful. Must be exposed.
Was he even vetted? Oh, yeah, what's vetting?"
