A Message for Senator John McCain
Watch: An Idea whose time has come
An Invitation to Senator John McCain
….an opportunity you may never have considered - historic and unprecedented.
Senator McCain, this is a personal message to you - every word of it sincere. It will take just five minutes of your time.
You know that there are very few people in government today that the American people respect. Approval ratings on every level speak for them. You are respected, and undeniably a war hero – and that you’ve been reduced to a bumbling fool by your own people, must have you outraged. Perhaps you will be ready for what I will ask of you.
You said nothing to George Stephanopolous that was anything but completely honest. We’re broke. Historically broke. We’ll be climbing out of this hole for decades, and we remember “read my lips - no new taxes”.
Your campaign is in desperation phase and it’s sad. Your people can’t share the excitement that Americans should feel, as they watch 200,000 Germans cheer the first authentic American President in a very long time. Republicans of conscience being considered as Obama running mates, is nothing more than empirical proof that something radically different is happening.
Now, you have an opportunity that you may never have considered - historic and unprecedented.
Drop out of the race. Do not concede. Reject. Reject the ugliness of campaign, all of those that have come before, all those to come. Drop out, not for health reasons, or some other managed spin. Fire the sociopaths that work for you. Reject their slanderous and divisive and outright silly campaign. Turn your back on them.
Not because you have already lost this election. Those that have underestimated you have paid the price. Not because you’re not many times the man that George Bush is - you are. But because you could be standing in the way of something no one could have envisioned. Not the election of Barack Obama, but acceptance of what he represents. Not only change, but hope.
And as far as the race card, tell your strategists this -we know who Barack Obama is. He is black, and white, and every color of the rainbow. What they do not realize, is that he is no color at all. And again the signature on this is not yours. A united America is what you suffered for, almost gave your life for.
I’m doing this, because of what I know about you. You are your own man. They call your uniquely independent thinking “maverick”.
We’re not seeing John McCain now, it is evident. You can’t be on your guard all the time. Every once in a while the truth slips out.
I’m sure some Democrats will be angry because I speak the truth about you. Its just not done. But they are as irrelevant as the rest of party politics. That could be changing, and you could be an agent of change. Do this, and you will be remembered as a true America hero.
There is no lack of confidence in the outcome of this election. We just don’t have the time. The system is crumbling daily, and enormous systemic problems are met with duct tape. Those solutions are over. There is no time to waste, and these could be a precious four months.
We have something compelling going on, something no less than a Tipping Point. Voter apathy is non-existent- we see Obama volunteers everywhere. Massive resources just keep coming- and from the everyman - $68 dollars at a time.
So, for those who may have already decided that this is just a lunatic rant, consider the history of commonly held beliefs. We now know that the Earth is not flat – and that its not the center of the Universe. If I’d have predicted the emergence of Barack Obama, I’d have been ridiculed. You can do this.
Everyone that I’ve spoken to about this, has had exactly the same reaction. Exactly the same words. He’ll never do this. And yet I have never had a doubt of this.
In the event you have epiphany, ththat since the media turns everyone into dancing bears, as they have you, I will grant no interviews, and debate the merits with no one. This is the beginning and end of it for me. The rest is up to you.
I offer to write a message for you in announcing this decision – a message for all time. Not a condemnation of you, nor of the Republican Party, simply the rejection of a flawed system. You would go from humiliated to historic.
With or without your help, we are a giant step closer to the real American Dream. You can ensure this miracle – that more than two centuries since the American Revolution, we see the beginning of The American Evolution.

I share many of Marc's sentiments but
in the end, it is over-the-top silly. And I would suggest egotistical bullshit is not far off the mark in many respects.
First McCain doesn't need to drop out. He just needs a time machine to return him to 2000 when he was a maverick because he didn't drink the neo-con kool-aid and run a decent campaign based on non-failed ideas presented honestly. Now I know that is way unlikely, but I submit it is as least as likely as McCain quitting and it would also represent a more constructive change in politics than a Presidential candidate throwing in the towel prior to an election.
"Everyone that I’ve spoken to about this, has had exactly the same reaction. Exactly the same words. He’ll never do this. And yet I have never had a doubt of this."
This very much resembles egotistical bullshit. It might be considered a form of delusion brought on by a lack of rest if not for the offer to write a message for McCain announcing his decision – "a message for all time."
"Not a condemnation of McCain"
I don't think McCain the man needs to be condemned per se but many of his policies do.
"Nor of the Republican Party"
I might just consider voting for John McCain if he kept running and condemned the Republican party. But since he's now embraced the stupidest of Republican policies (i.e., policies he previously rejected), it is an outcome I serious doubt will occur.
"simply the rejection of a flawed system."
I'm with you. Fire the Rove JV. Actually reform campaign finance. Pursue policy questions earnestly, not ideologically. That would be my prayer. Sadly, it is not my expectation.
"You would go from humiliated to historic"
Try humiliated and historic.
