Distpatches from Coney Island

Goodbye my Coney Island Baby,

Farewell my own true love (true love my honey)

I’m going to go away and leave you,

Never to see you any- (never gonna see my little bambino)

I’m gonna sail up on that ferry boat,

Never to return again (return again)

So Goodbye, Farewell, So long forever (Bum-Baa)

Goodbye my Coney Isle (Dee - Hi)

Goodbye my Coney Isle (Dee - Ho)

Today on The Lionel Show - Monday Septmeber 8th.

If you’re a devoted follower of this blog, you need to go here. I kid of course.

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I struggle daily with the concept of a “liberal media elite”. I struggle with it not because of a priori conclusions or brainless deference to Leftism, but rather because I genuinely don’t see the evidence for it. If you’re talking about blogs, then sure, I can see that there are some far-Left loonies writing poorly thought-out, conspiracy-laden pieces of sensationalism designed to undermine any and all conservative agendas. But these blogs surely have their counterparts on the right; the internet is rife with racist screeds, “Obama-is-a-Muslim” articles, and the like. In short, everybody’s crazy except you and me, and you can go sit on an air hose for all I care.

When it comes to the Mainstream Media, however, I do not see a liberal bias. In fact, 9 times out of 10, I get a decidedly conservative vibe from cable news and the network heavyweights. Those on the right could not disagree more, or more loudly. When they tune in to CNN or ABC, they see a cardboard cutout of Karl Marx reading the news, wearing an Obama ’08 pin on his breast.

That Which Is Perforce True, The Undeniable Verity Of Palin As The Shallow Puddle. More Reflections Of A Post RNC Lionel

INTERCOURSE, Pennsylvania – As Dorothy Parker said, “You can't teach an old dogma new tricks.”  And when you have a candidate who is as entrenched in politically anachronistic ideology as John McCain and his pit bull, Madame Mooseslayer, change and, better yet, improvement are a long way off.

And as he claims to be the merchant of change (Gee, where’ve I heard that before?), his underlying theme is illutible. Think of Republican ideology as an indelible stain.  No matter how you try your best to cover up the message, its tattoo shadow remains.  John McCain has milked his maverick theme for all its worth, but this thematic teat is dry. McCain droned on about the usual themes: his POW status (for that sole person who may have awakened from a two decades-old coma), his love of country, his disdain for partisan politics (I love that beaut) and the other predigested pap and hokum that the GOP’ers feed on.

McCain and Palin have yet to utter even the closest thing vaguely resembling an idea, a thought or a plan.  Yet the GOP’ers clap wildly.  High-minded truisms, platitudes, “no shites” (Here’s to the Irish!) and bumper sticker punch lines: they can’t get enough. And I saw it cause an absolute frenzy on the floor of the Xcel Energy Center.  In fact, the fact that there was any measurable energy at the Energy Center was a testament to the fact that Republican fervor seems to surround status quo and thwart the Democratic or progressive or Obama message.  The GOP is analogous to the Y chromosome; it is politically inert.  It stops or interrupts change, innovation or improvement. Its very being is as the proponent of politico-stasis.

WE HAVE YET ANOTHER CACOEPIST IN THE RANKS: THE DREADED METATHESIS STRIKES AGAIN

That’s right, Sarah Louise Heath Palin pronounces nuclear as “nucular.”
